About Petah Tikvah

        PETAH TIKVAH
      "Doorway of Hope"

Petah Tikvah is a Messianic synagogue.  We are Jews and gentiles who put our faith and trust in Yeshua Ha Notzri ("Jesus of Nazareth") as our Moshiach (Messiah) and as our salvation.  We worship on Shabbat, the Sabbath Day, as Yeshua always did when He was here on earth.  Likewise we observe Jewish worship just as Yeshua did.  Jewish worship is little changed since the time of Yeshua, and indeed, since long before He came down to earth in human form.  Thus our worship is essentially what Yeshua observed in the synagogues of His day.

Petah Tikvah's worship is done in Hebrew and English: In Hebrew because Yeshua worshipped in Hebrew and Jewish people the world over have worshipped in Hebrew for the past 2000 years, and in English to make it understandable to those who have not been raised in Jewish homes or synagogues.

Petah Tikvah is Hebrew פתה תקוה meaning "doorway of hope".  It is found in Scripture in Hosea 2:17 in the Hebrew Bible (Hosea 2:15 in the Holy Bible): "And I will give to her her vineyards from there, and [make] the Valley of Achor (Troubling) into a portal of hope..." - THE TORAH / PROPHETS / WRITINGS, The Stone Edition.  The phrase translated "portal of hope" in English is "petah tikvah" in Hebrew.

We do not believe that our congregation is the doorway of hope.  According to our faith, Yeshua is that Doorway, the Doorway to salvation, the Doorway to a Torah-based life, and ultimately the Doorway to eternal life in ha olam ha ba (the world to come).

In our view the Hebrew Bible (Tanach) and the Christian Scriptures (Ha B'rith Ha Chadashah) combined constitute the complete Jewish Bible, the Scriptures which are the inspired Word of Hashem.  In our view what is sometimes known as the Oral Torah is wisdom as long as it does not contradict the written Torah (the Chumash, the first five books of any Bible).

We observe the religious year outlined by Hashem in Leviticus 23, that is, we observe the Holy Days that Hashem calls His festivals.

We believe that Hashem has begun to fulfill His Word to restore His people Israel to the Land He gave them in perpetuity, the Land of Israel.  We support Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state and to retain the land that Hashem has restored to them.  We believe that when Yeshua Ha Moshiach returns ("the second coming of Christ") that He will be coming first and foremost to deliver the Israelis His brethren from total destruction by their enemies, to rebuild Jerusalem, and to usher in the seventh millenium from creation as a time of peace when men will beat their swords into plowshares and the lion will lie down with the lamb.
